Open Water Diver

Your ticket to the underwater world

Yes, that was amazing…I can’t wait to go for my next dive!!! Those are most likely the words that you will say after obtaining your very first diving license.

Remember when you learned how to drive a car or learned to ski? Do you still remember your instructor? I thought so too!! The same goes for diving, it is very important to have a good, reliable yet fun person at your side that you can trust for 100%. The instructor is the key factor in teaching you everything you want to know about diving, its techniques, the equipment, the aquatic life and all the opportunities that lay a head now.

On your first day your instructor will give you a manual in your own language which is yours to keep and he will help you filling in the required paperwork. By now it is time to start watching a DVD that gives you an introduction to the diving theory. Lunch will be provided for you and your instructor will serve you some funny and interesting stories as well, just to make sure that you want fall a sleep during his or her presentation After each section, there are five in total, you will make a small quiz and together with your instructor you will have a look at the knowledge reviews that are at the end of each chapter in the manual.

Yesterday, you learned the basics about diving, but TODAY is the day. We are going to go diving!!!

Your instructor will take you along to try on some scuba equipment and shortly after, you will be sitting on the edge of a pool, listening to a briefing about your very first confined water dive. During this day we teach you how to set up your scuba equipment, how to perform a pre dive safety check and of course we are here to learn diving. So we hit the water and take our time getting familiar with the equipment and the breathing underwater. You will learn how to clear your regulator, how to empty your mask, reacting to out of air situations and many more techniques that are essential to diving. The course is quality based not time based, so we stop until you feel comfortable and at ease and when we know that you are ready for the next step…the open water!!

Day three and day four we head to the ocean and make our required open water dives. On the boat you will receive a briefing explaining you the different areas of the boat, how your day will look like and where to find some drinks, fruit and other things you might need. Once arrived at the dive sites, your instructor will give you a specific dive briefing before entering the water and starting your true adventure!!

The first two dives are conducted on sites ideal for entry level divers. No great depths and strong currents here, but nice shallow reefs with sandy bottoms where we can sit down and perform our skills that we’ve learned earlier in the pool. When we are in the water for dives three and four we go a little bit deeper (max 18m) and explore some of the pinnacles and rock formations that are spread around here.

During our dives we show you all the different species of fish and corals that you can find around Koh Chang and we fine-tune our buoyancy and learn how to navigate as well.

On the end of the fourth day you make your final exam – do not worry, you’ll pass it with ease and we write down your two dives of the day in your logbook and last but not least we will hand over your certification, because yes….You are a DIVER NOW!!
